RO FULL FORM
Full Form of RO : Reverse Osmosis
What is the full form of RO?
No:1. The full form of RO is Reverse Osmosis.
No:2. Reverse Osmosis is a particular filtration process which utilizes a semipermeable, porous membrane which only enables clear water to move through it, removing the impurities and large molecules.
No:3. RO technology is primarily applicable to potable water production in water plants and factories.
No:4. The ultimate result is the solute.
No:5. It occurs when the pure solvent is permitted to follow one end of the membrane, allowing the accumulation of a solvent on a suitable side of a membrane.
No:6. Reverse Osmosis removes suspended organisms and kinds that have been dissolved from water such as bacteria.

Working principle of Reverse Osmosis
No:1. Reverse Osmosis operates by reversing the osmosis principle.
No:2. The salt solution is pushed against the semipermeable membrane and put under pressure.
No:3. Here, the pressure applied is greater than the osmotic pressure.
No:4. So the molecules are going from a highly concentrated -solution to a less concentrated solution.
Difference between Osmosis and Reverse Osmosis
Osmosis | Reverse Osmosis |
No:1. It is the mechanism by which the solvent molecules migrate through the semipermeable membrane from the lower concentration area to a higher concentration. | No:1. This is the method by which a solvent’s molecules pass via the semi-permeable from an area of high to low concentration when pushing higher than the osmotic pressure is applied. |
No:2. It’s kind of a natural process. | No:2. It’s a natural process. |
No:3. It happens along with a potential gradient. | No:3. It happens against the potential gradient. |
No:4. It is noticed during stomatal opening and the absorption of water from the soil by the roots. | No:4. It is observed in the water purification system. |
