Loktak Lake UPSC:- Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India(Manipur), and is famous for the phumdis (heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil, and organic matter at various stages of decomposition) floating over it. This ancient lake plays an important role in the economy of Manipur.

No.-3. Keibul Lamjao is the only floating national park in the world which is on this lake.
No.-4. The Keibul Lamjao National Park is the last natural refuge of the endangered sangai (state animal) or Manipur brown-antlered deer.
No.-5. This ancient lake plays an important role in the economy of Manipur.
No.-6. It serves as a source of water for irrigation, drinking water supply and hydropower generation.
No.-7. The lake is also a source of livelihood for the rural fishermen who live in the surrounding areas and on phumdis, also known as “phumshongs”.
No.-8. Considering the ecological status and its biodiversity values, the lake was initially designated as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention on 23 March 1990.
No.-9. It was also listed under the Montreux Record on 16 June 1993, “a record of Ramsar sites where changes in ecological character have occurred, are occurring or are likely to occur”.
No.-10. Loktak Lake is fed by the Manipur river and several tributaries and ‘Ungamel Channel’ (Ithai Barrage) is its only outlet now.

No.-4. Keibul Lamjao,the only floating national park in the world, floats over it.
No.-5. Brow-antlered deer (Endangered) are found only on Loktak’s phumdi, in the Keibul Lamjao National Park.
No.-6. Edible plants, roots and fruits growing on the phumdi are a major part of the diet in Manipur.

No.-1. लोकटक झील पूर्वोत्तर में ताज़े पानी की सबसे बड़ी झील है।
No.-2. यह मणिपुर के मोइरंग (Moirang) शहर में स्थित है। तैरते हुए द्वीप इस झील की मुख्य विशेषता है।
No.-3. विश्व का एकमात्र तैरता हुआ कीबुल लामजाओ राष्ट्रीय उद्यान (Keibul Lamjao National Park) इसी झील में स्थित है।
