भारत का गोवा राज्य क्षेत्रफल के हिसाब से सबसे छोटा और जनसंख्या के हिसाब से चौथा सबसे छोटा राज्य है। भारत सरकार ने गोवा पर “विजय” नामक सैन्य अभियान चलाया था जिसके बाद 19 दिसंबर 1961 को गोवा को भारतीय गणतंत्र में मिलाया गया था।
गोवा के पहले मुख्यमन्त्री के रूप में महाराष्ट्रवादी गोमंतक पार्टी के ‘दयानंद बांदोडकर’ ने 20 दिसंबर 1963 को शपथ ग्रहण की थी। बतादें कि दमन और दीव भी उस समय गोवा का हिस्सा होता था जिससे गोवा का मुख्यमंत्री इसका मुख्यमंत्री भी होता था।
