Full Form of IAS:-IAS full form is Indian Administrative Service.

What is an IAS ?

IAS or (Indian Administrative Service) is one of the three All India Services. The other two are Indian Police Service (IPS) and IFS (Indian Forest Service).

How to become an IAS officer?

As we know that IAS officers are a part of the All India Services, they serve the Government of India as well as state cadres, depending on their deputation. During the British era, it was referred to as the Indian/Imperial Civil Service (ICS). After independence, ICS was changed to IAS ( the abbreviated form of Indian Administrative Service).

No:1. By Direct recruits – The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India is tasked with the recruitment of IAS officers along with IPS, IRS and other premier Group A (and a few Group B) services. The UPSC recruits All India Service and Central Service officers through the prestigious Civil Service Exam.

Functions of an IAS officers are given below:

No:1. The IAS – Indian Administrative Service officers, hold key positions in the administrative machinery of the Indian GovernmentGovernment. They are the bureaucratic backbone of the parliamentary system of GovernmentGovernment.
No:2. IAS Officers can be a part of the district administration, state secretariat and the central secretariat. The highest-ranking IAS officer in India is the Cabinet Secretary.
No:3. IAS officer oversee law and order, and general administration
No:4.There are few key posts which are held by IAS officers:Collector, District Magistrate, Chief Development Officer, Executive Magistrate, District Development Commissioner
No:5. IAS officer can also be appointed to manage Public Sector Undertakings(PSUs)
No:6. They handle the day-to-day affairs of the Government
No:7. IAS officers are involved in policy formulation and policy implementation
No:8. IAS officers are often tasked with overseeing public fund management

The field postings held by IAS Officer are:

No:1. SDM, Joint Collector, Chief Development Officer (CDO)
No:2. District Magistrate, District Collector or Commissioner
No:3. Divisional Commissioner

Salary distribution of IAS officer:

No:1. Performing all of these above important duties government gives a good pay and powerful position to IAS officers. The Apex Scale is ₹ 80,000 (fixed)
No:2. Above Super Time Scale: ₹ 67,000-80,000
No:3. Super Time Scale: ₹37,400-₹67,000 plus grade pay of₹ 10000
No:4. Selection Grade: ₹37,400-₹67,000 plus grade Pay of ₹8700
No:5. Junior Administrative Grade: ₹15,600-₹39,100 plus grade pay of ₹7600
No:6. Senior Time Scale: ₹15,600-₹39,100 plus grade pay of ₹6600
No:7. Junior Time Scale: ₹15,600-₹39,100 plus grade pay of ₹5400

Besides a good salary scale, the IAS Officers are offered the following perks including:

Eligibility Criteria to become an IAS officer:

No:1. The minimum educational qualification needed for becoming an IAS officer is that you must be  graduation from a recognized university.
No:2. Candidate must be atleast 21 years when applying for IAS exam.

Syllabus for IAS exam:

The prelims is an objective type paper, The mains is a subjective exam and the Interview is a viva- exam. The candidate is chosen on the basis of the marks of the Main exam and Interview. The total marks for the Mains exam is 1750. The total marks for the Interview is 275. Therefore, the student should prepare wisely.
The first paper of Prelims (General Studies) covers the following topics given below:

No:5. Social and Economic Development
No:6. Climate Change
No:7. Art
No:8. Culture
No: 9. General Knowledge of Science
No:10. Environment
The second paper of Prelims (CSAT) covers the following topics:

No:2. Decision Making
No:3. English
No:4. Comprehension
No:5. Data Interpretation
No:6. Basic Maths

The Mains exam covers the following subjects-
No:1. Compulsory Indian Language
No:2. English
No:3. Essay
No:4. Current Affairs
No:5. History
No:6. Geography
No:7. Art and Culture
No:8. Polity
No:9. Governance
No:10. Social and Economic Development
No:11. Economy
No:12. Science and Technology
No:13. Ethics
Optional paper – There are 26 subjects that you can choose your optional from.

Number of Attempts given by UPSC:

No:1. The general category has 7 attempts.
No:2. There is no limit for SC/ST
No:3.  For other backward classes there are 9 attempts.
