What is the full form of DIG?

No:1. The full form of DIG is Deputy Inspector General.

Procedure to become DIG

No:1. The candidate must appear in the Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC.
No:2. Candidates will be appointed as IPS officer after qualifying the exam and will go through relevant training as an IPS officer.
No:3. After the completion of the IPS officer training, the candidate is appointed as an ACP  or ASP .
No:4. Finally, applicants are promoted to the position of SP  and then to the role of SSP (Senior Police Superintendent) and then to the post of DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) based on experience, a record of achievement and performance.

Job relation with District Magistrate

No:1. The Deputy Inspector General of Police acts as a representative of the Inspector general of Police on his behalf, while dealing with the District Magistrate.
No:2. He solves the cases which are within his competence and forwards the rest of the cases to the Inspector General of Police to seek his opinion.
No:3. If there is any difference between the opinion of the DIG and District Magistrate then the case is forwarded to Inspector General of Police and he proves the final solution or decision.
