Some points about History of DDT 

No:1. It was first synthesised in 1874.
No:2. DDT was used to suppress malaria as well as typhus among civilians & troops in the 2nd period of world war 2.
No:3. About 386 million pounds of DDT were manufactured worldwide in the year 1970.
No:4. DDT was most commonly used as a spray in the United States in 1959.
No:5. In the early 1970’s issues regarding the harmful effects of DDT on the atmosphere and living things were posed.
No:6. In 1973 the United States, the Agency for Environmental Protection has banned the use of DDT in the United States.

Structure of DDT and its operation are

No:1. C14H9Cl is the DDT molecular formula.
No:2. DDT is strongly hydrophobic and not water-soluble and soluble in most of the organic solvents like fats, oils etc.
No:3. DDT is naturally formed by a chloral (CCl3CHO) interaction with chlorobenzene (C6H5Cl) in the presence of a sulphuric acid catalyst (H2SO4).
No:4. If the plants are sprayed with DDT, the insects living on the crops are exposed to it.
No:5. DDT damages the nerves of the bug, which leads to death eventually.
