CRPF Full Form
Brief History of CRPF
- The name CRPF is derived from the Crown Representative’s Police (CRP) which was founded on 27 July 1939 to protect the British people living in the sensitive states of India.
- In 1949, under the CRPF Act, the CRP was renamed CRPF.
- On October 21, 1959, a small CRPF patrol was attacked by the Chinese soldiers and 10 out of the 20 CRPF soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country. To honor the martyrdom of these soldiers, October 21 is remembered as the Police Commemoration Day.
- In the 1960s, most of the state police battalions were merged with CRPF.
- Until 1965, CRPF was guarding the India-Pakistan Border later BSF was deployed to guard the border.
- It played an important role in curbing militant activities in Punjab during 1980s and insurgency in Tripura during 1990s.
- In 1992, a specialized unit of CRPF (Rapid Action Force) was established by converting 10 unattached battalions of CRPF to deal with riots.
- In 1986, the first Mahila Battalion in CRPF, the 88(M) Bn was established to handle women agitations.
- In 2001 Indian Parliament attack, CRPF killed all the five terrorists involved in the attack. same year, it was designated as the premier internal security force of India.
- In 2008, Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a specialized unit of CRPF was established to counter naxal operations.

CRPF Career – Central Reserve Police Force
- Central Reserve Police Force came into existence as the Crown Representative’s Police on the 27th July’1939.
- It became the Central Reserve Police Force on enactment of the CRPF Act on 28th December’ 1949.
- It has completed 60 years of glorious history.
- The Force has grown into a big organization with 191 Battalions (173 executive Battalions including 2 Mahila Battalions, 10 RAF Battalions, 5 Signal Battalions and 1 Special Duty Group) 35 Group Centers including a Signal Group Centre, 10 training Institutions, 2 Central Weapon Store, 7Arms Work shop, 1 Static Workshop, 2 Mobile Workshops, 3 Base Hospitals and one 100 bed composite Hospital with a backup of well knit administrative set up covering the entire geography of the country.
Full Form of CRPF
- CRPF or Central Reserve Police Force is a premier paramilitary force of the Armed Force of the Union of India.
- The main task of the CRPF is to maintain internal security.
- It is usually deployed in areas to counter insurgency and maintain law and order.
- In times of peace it is deployed at places where calamities occur due to natural tragedies.
- The CRPF recruits young individuals for the position of Assistant Sub Inspector.
CRPF Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications–
- A minimum of Intermediate/10+2/equivalent is necessary,
- typing (35-40 words per minute in English; 25-30 words per minute in Hindi;
- shorthand 80 words per minute)is required for the post of Assistant Sub Inspector (Stenographer) in CRPF.
Age Limit– 18-25 yrs
Physical Standards–
- A minimum of 170 cms. (5 cms. Relation for Adivasis or Tribals)
- Chest-81 cms. (A minimum of 5 cms. of expansion; tribals 77-82cms
Women Candidates–
- A minimum of 157 cms. of height (154-155 cms. for Adivasis or Tribals)
- Eyesight Near Vision (corrected vision) J.I (better eye); J.II (worse eye)
- Distant vision – better eye (corrected vision) – 6/6 or 6/9. Worse eye 6/12 or 6/9
- Flat feet, Knock knees, squint in eyes and physical defects ruled out

CRPF Selection Procedure
- Written Examination of two hours and consists of four sections

- Typing and/or shorthand test
- Personal interview
- Physical Efficiency Test
- Physical measurements
All those who attain minimum qualifying marks in the Written Examination have to undergo shorthand/typing test and appear for the personality test or interview.
The Physical Efficiency Test, if conducted (meaning for those candidates who happen to clear the earlier rounds) consists of tests like one mile run in six and a half minutes etc. Candidates in possession of NCC ‘C’ Certificate or certificate of participation in a sports meet of national level are awarded bonus marks.
CRPF Jobs
There is an initial period of training after which the personal are given regular postings. He generally retires from the post of Asst. Commandant.
