Full Form of CPCB : Central Pollution Control Board

What is the Full form of CPCB?

No:1. The full form of CPCB is Central Pollution Control Board.
No:2. It is a statutory agency established under the Water Act, 1974, in September 1974.
No:3. It was also entrusted with the competences and duties under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution Act, 1981).
No:4. The CPCB is handled by its chairman, appointed by the Central Government.
No:5. The CPCB assists the Ministry of Environment & Forests with technical support.
No:6. Under the Water Act of 1974 and the Air Act of 1981, the main objectives of this organization are to promote the cleanliness of waterways and wells in various parts of the States by preventing, regulating and reducing water pollution and improving air quality to avoid, control and reduce air pollution.

Components tracked by the CPCB

No:1. It also operates the NAMP (National Air Quality Monitoring Programme) to assess the current air quality level and to track and control industrial and other related sources of emissions to sustain air quality.
No:2. The CPCB has an automated intersection control centre in New Delhi at ITO.
No:3. It constantly tracks
a). RSPM
b). CO (carbon monoxide)
c). O3 (ozone)
d). SO2 (sulphur dioxide)
e). SPM (suspended particulate matter) and so on.

Duties of CPCB

No:1. Advises the Central Government on issues relating to water and air pollution prevention and control
No:2. Plan and implement systemic water and air pollution prevention and control programmes
No:3. Coordinate the state board’s operations and settle its conflicts
No:4. Guide individuals are engaging in activities relating to water and air pollution prevention and control.
No:5. Organize public education campaigns on water and air pollution prevention, abatement or control
No:6. Collect, organize and release statistical and technical data on air and water emissions and water and air quality management measures
No:7. Start preparing guides, protocols and instructions for handling and disposing of wastewater and industrial effluents
No:8. Defines air quality requirements and performs useful roles as specified by the Indian Government.
