Full Form of CGL : Combined Graduate Level

What is the full form of CGL?

No:1. The full form of CGL is the Combined Graduate Level.
No:2. It is one of the most sought-after examinations carried out yearly by the Staff Selection Committee, established in 1975.
No:3. So, it is also referred to as the Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level Exam (SSC CGL).
No:4. CGL is designed to recruit employees to specific jobs in ministries, government agencies and other Government of India organisations, like Group B & Group C Positions.
No:5. The final decision of the applicants based on the number of vacancies from the relevant departments.

Eligibility criteria for CGL

No:1. The applicant should be an Indian citizen with a bachelor’s degree In a related discipline.
No:2. The SSC for SSC CGL Recruitment has raised the age cap, but the age differs from post to post.
No:3. For SSC CGL, the age limit needed is 27 years, and the maximum age restriction is 32 years.

Examination pattern of CGL

No:1. The exam is carried out online.
No:2. It is a computer-based examination that is carried out in 4 stages which are given below :
1). Preliminary examination (Tier-I) – 60-minutes duration
2). Main Exam (Tier-II) – 120 minutes in duration
3). Descriptive Test (Tier-III) – 60-minute duration
4). Skill Test or Computer Proficiency Test (Tier-IV) – 45 minutes in duration

Structure of Exam

No:1. Tier I: Preliminary

The Tier I exam consists of a written objective multiple-choice exam with four sections, covering the subjects of:
a). General Intelligence and Reasoning
b). General Awareness
c). Quantitative Aptitude
d). English Comprehension
The exam was typically scored with maximum 50 Marks per section for a total of 200 Marks.
Based on results from Tier I, qualified candidates can then take the Tier II and Tier III exams.

No:2. Tier II: Mains Exam

Also known as the Mains Exam, the Tier II exam consists of written objective multiple-choice exam, in four sections (also called “Papers”), covering the subjects of:
a). Quantitative Aptitude
b). English Language and Comprehension
c). Statistics
d). General Studies, which is subdivided into:
e). Finance & Accounting
f). Economics & Governance.
The exam was typically scored with maximum 200 Marks per section.

No:3. Tier III exam: Descriptive Paper

A pen-and-paper “offline” exam in which candidates are to do writing in the form of essay writing and letter writing, and sometimes précis and application writing. The exam can be done in English or Hindi.

No:4. Tier IV exam: Data Entry Skill Test / Computer Proficiency Test

In 2016, a 4th  tier was added with 2 possible exams depending on the positions applied :
a). Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): candidates enter data at the rate of 2000 key presses in 15 minutes. This is mainly for positions such as Tax Assistant. (Central Excise & Income Tax)
b). Computer Proficiency Test (CPT): covering the topics of word processing, spreadsheets, and making slides.
