What are birds?

Birds are warm-blooded, have backbones, and have wings. They’re also the only animals with feathers.
Birds are vertebrates (animals with backbones) with wings and feathers. Most birds can fly, using powerful muscles to flap their wings. But a few bird species do not have strong enough wings to fly, and so these birds are flightless. Birds’ bodies are covered with a light, tough layer of feathers and they have very light skeletons. Instead of teeth, they have hornlike beaks, or bills. Birds hatch from eggs, and many species build nests where their eggs and young can develop in safety.

Types of Birds

Because there are so many different kinds of birds, there are also many different ways to sort birds into various types. Before we start listing bird names, we’ll cover the different types of birds.
Flightless vs. Flighted:- One way to sort birds is by whether or not they are able to fly. Most people picture flying birds when they think about birds. There really aren’t very many types of birds that can’t fly. These include penguins, ostriches, emus, and kiwis.
Pets vs. Wild:-  Some birds make excellent pets. Other birds are really better suited to staying in the wild, or, at worst, in a conservatory or zoo. Some of the best pets are parakeets, cockatiels, cockatoos, and parrots.
Common Name:- Probably the most common way to sort birds is according to their common name. All of the different types of birds listed above are parts of their common name. The list of bird names below will be sorted by common name. So, for example, instead of using the scientific name for parrots, we will just list some of the more popular or common types of parrots all together.
