Full Form of ABS : Anti- lock Braking System

What is the full form of ABS?

No:1. The full form of ABS is the Anti- lock Braking System.
No:2. The ABS is a protective and anti-skid braking system used on land vehicles like bikes, trucks, buses and cars also in aircraft.
No:3. It avoids the tires of a vehicle from locking up & skidding when brakes are applied on emergency shutdown.
No:4. ABS enables the tyres to retain the tr-active connection with the ground surface.
No:5. When a rider encounters an unexpected barrier and applies to brake, the tires of the vehicle don’t lock up, so it moves in the path of the wheels when rotated by the rider, so it avoids crash into the obstacle.

History of motorcycle ABS

No:1. In 1988, BMW introduced an electronic/hydraulic ABS for motorcycles, ten years after Daimler Benz and Bosch released the 1st  four-wheel vehicle ABS for series production.
No:2. Motorcycles of BMW K100 series were optionally equipped with the ABS, which added 11 kg to the bike.
No:3. It was developed together with FAG Kugelfischer and regulated the pressure in the braking circuits via a plunger piston.
No:4. Japanese manufacturers followed with an ABS option by 1992 on the Honda ST1100 and the Yamaha FJ1200.
No:5. Continental presented its first Motorcycle Integral ABS (MIB) in 2006.
No:6. It has been developed in cooperation with BMW and weighed 2.3 kg.
No:7. While the 1st  generation of motorcycle ABS weighed around 11 kg.
No:8. The current generation (2011) presented by Bosch in 2009 weighs 0.7 kg (ABS base) and 1.6 kg (ABS enhanced) with integral braking.

No:1. ABS is an automatic device that uses the concepts of cadence and threshold braking, techniques that were practised by experienced drivers until ABS became universal.
No:2. ABS performs more efficiently and at a much quicker pace than most drivers could handle.
No:3. From the time ABS was implemented in production vehicles, these systems have become increasingly successful and sophisticated.
No:4. Modern systems of ABS in automobiles may indeed prevent locking of tires under braking, but it may also modify its front-to-rear braking system errors.
No:5. Even the ABS process depends entirely on its execution and specific capabilities, is alternatively known as the electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control system, ESC (electronic stability control) or emergency brake assist.
