Brief History of GPRS :

No:1. General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) was introduced in the year 2000 as a packet-switched data service incorporated into the channel switched cellular radio network GSM.
No:2. It extends the reach of the Fixed Internet by connecting mobile terminals all over the world.
No:3. The CELLPAC protocol established in 1991-1993 was the primary trigger for beginning in 1993 configuration of standard GPRS by ETSI SMG.
No:4. The CELLPAC Voice & Data functions introduced in a 1993 ETSI Workshop dedication anticipate what later became known as GPRS roots.
No:5. The workshop input is cited in 22 GPRS-related US-Patents.
No:6. Successor systems to GSM / GPRS such as W-CDMA (UMTS) and LTE, as implemented by CELLPAC, depend on critical GPRS operations for mobile Internet access.
No:7. According to the history of GPRS growth, the inventors of GPRS are Bernhard Walke and his student Peter Decker, the first to make the system access to mobile internet globally.

To use GPRS we requires :

Due to the more advanced infrastructure than traditional 2G wireless technology .It is considered as 2.5G technology but it does not satisfy the need for 3G developments. Requirements to use GPRS are given below :
No:1. A service that includes GPRS modem.
No:2. A network of GSM / GPRS.
No:3. A GPRS-aided SIM card.
No:4. A remote location that has internet connectivity or a GPRS network.

Advantages of GPRS :

No:1. GPRS provides higher data transfer speed than fixed telecommunication networks.
No:2. GPRS’s maximum speed is 171.2 kbps, almost 3 times quicker than fixed-telecommunication speed.
No:3. GPRS provides instant connection and immediate data transfer.
No:4. GPRS is very cost-effective.
No:5. GPRS has innovative and superior applications.
No:6. GPRS provides internet applications over mobile and also facilitates Web browsing, IM messages, E- commerce etc.
